Not only do First Responders regularly sacrifice their health and well-being on behalf of public safety, but they are subjected to professional stressors that can be overpowering to them and their families, ultimately setting them up for dysfunction and failure. The end results are staggering…
Divorce rates at some Departments are as high as 84%
1 out of 4 Responders struggle with Alcoholism
A significant number (10%-30%) of Responders suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Responders are twice as likely to die from Suicide, than in the Line of Duty
The life expectancy of Responders is 15 years less than the general population.
War Horse Operational Stress Injury Symposiums
War Horse has been organizing operational stress injury symposiums since 2010. Our symposiums bring together a variety of frontline service providers to discuss and share information about PTSD, depression, anxiety and other related stress injuries. This event is a three-day session. The first two days are filled with information sessions from professionals and individuals from programs and services available in the community to assist those who are struggling with these types of injuries. The third day is an optional one-day horse session where participants can experience the benefits of working with horses.
To register for a symposium near you, please go to “Events” and register for your preferred event. War Horse has its partners have organized many peer-based equine-assisted events for Frontline Service Providers. PEER (Peer Empowered Equine Resiliency) Retreat Canada/U.S. brought together first responders from Canada and the United States for this unique and powerful retreat in Lake Placid, New York. Other similar retreats such as our FREN (First Responder Equine Nature) Retreats are also offered throughout the year in various communities.
